No, Your Majesty, Congress Will Not Be Available Wednesday

Will Sergeant at Arms Wilson Livingood slam the doors of the House of Representatives shut in President Obama's face if he shows up uninvited Wednesday?
The president has asked to address a joint session of Congress that day in order to deliver for the umpteenth time another dreary, excuse-filled teleprompted oration on how he's going to magically create new jobs for Americans.
The Obama White House doesn't give a farthing's cuss that a high-stakes Republican presidential candidates' debate has been scheduled for the same evening at the Reagan Library.
Obama flak Jay Carney says the timing is a fluke. As the Washington Examiner reports
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney says the timing of the speech is not aimed at overshadowing the next Republican debate, which is cosponsored by NBC News and Politico, and is scheduled to air at the same time as the planned presidential address.
"It is coincidental," Carney said. "It is one debate of many [that will air] on one channel of many... [and] there are many other factors here" to consider when scheduling a major address from the president, he added.
Of course, anyone who believes the timing is coincidental hasn't been paying attention to our president for the last few years.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is having none of it. He sent a letter to the White House recommending another day for the speech. Good for him.
It is clear that President Obama may not dictate to Congress when he shall address it.
The tradition that the head of state must at least implicitly seek the permission of the legislature in order to appear in person and address it has a long and storied history in Anglo-American governance.
In England the House of Commons goes so far as to ceremonially slam the doors of the chamber in the face of the Queen's representative, the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, to remind all in that green and pleasant land that the Commons is independent of the monarch.
Perhaps it's time some doors get slammed in the face of America's would-be monarch.

Your tax dollars at work

Volunteers for Prosperity, a branch of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), can't even spell the name of the president of the United States correctly.

Yet President Obama wants bureaucrats just like these people, who can't even spell his name right, to run the nation's healthcare system.

Bringing Jihad TV to America

My latest article at Front Page Magazine...

Bringing Jihad TV to America

By Matthew Vadum

Leftists are pushing to make Al Jazeera’s English language channel widely available on college campuses and cable TV networks throughout America in order to undermine public support for Israel.
Radical activist Phyllis Bennis explained the importance of the TV channel at a recent “Campaign for Al Jazeera English” event in Washington, D.C., hosted by a group called Rethink Press.
“If there were Al Jazeera access in every city in this country, building a movement to challenge U.S. foreign policy, to make it something different than what it is, would be a whole hell of a lot easier than it is now,” according to Bennis.
And what aspect of U.S. foreign policy is Bennis most interested in? Israel.
She demands that U.S. aid to Israel be eliminated and accuses Israel of “crimes” and “apartheid.” Bennis condemned the Israeli navy’s interception of the pro-Palestinian flotilla last year that aimed to break Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip as a “pirate-style assault” and a “massacre at sea.”
This Noam Chomsky wannabe is also co-founder of the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and works closely with the Communist-dominated anti-war coalition known as United for Peace and Justice. She is a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies, probably the most virulently anti-American think tank of note in the nation.
And why is Bennis so enthused about Al Jazeera English in particular? Because its coverage is relentlessly critical of Israel.

Weigel Laughs in the Face of Waste, Fraud, and Abuse

My friend David Weigel over at Slate thinks it's knee-slappingly hilarious that lawmakers took the time to prohibit federal funding of President Obama's favorite activist group in the proposed Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act.
He writes in a blog post sarcastically titled "Good News: Stalled FEMA Funding Bill Bans ACORN Funding":
I've been poking around today on an emerging issue: What will be cut in order to fund FEMA's obligations for Hurricane Irene recovery? The search takes me to the text of the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, which was narrowly passed by the House but sits stalled in the Senate. That stall is the reason that FEMA has to move around money meant for Joplin disaster recovery in order to take care of Irene. I don't see why there's a hold-up, because Republicans did a good job making sure no DHS money could go to liberal groups.
First off, ACORN is not a liberal group. It is a radical leftist group.
Second, lawmakers have every reason to worry that FEMA funds might go to ACORN's new front groups. FEMA gave close to $1.5 million to ACORN in 2008 and 2009. Federal money, including FEMA funds, has a habit of disappearing into a vortex, as noted by the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general.
Third, the Obama administration is already funneling taxpayer dollars to ACORN in violation of a congressionally approved funding ban. The Department of Housing and Urban Development gave an $80,000 grant to ACORN Housing, which has renamed itself Affordable Housing Centers of America, in March.
ACORN officials openly acknowledge that ACORN's new front groups created after the shell corporation named ACORN filed for bankruptcy last year will come together under a new name in order to help reelect President Obama next year. Read all about it in my new book, Subversion Inc.: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers.
Weigel provides a list of the ACORN-related groups that will be denied federal funding under the DHS appropriations bill. Here is a sampling of just a few groups on the list that remain active:
ACORN Canada
ACORN International (a.k.a. Community Organizations International)
New York Communities for Change
Affordable Housing Centers of America
Action Now
Pennsylvania Communities Organizing for Change
Arkansas Community Organizations
Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment
New England United for Justice
Texas Organizing Project
Minnesota Neighborhoods Organizing for Change
Organization United for Reform
Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment
A Community Voice
Working Families Party
Hilarious, ain't it?

Obama Dirty Tricks Operative Buffy Wicks to Run Campaign Unit Named After ACORN’s Voter Fraud Factory

An article of mine from Big Government:

Obama Dirty Tricks Operative Buffy Wicks to Run Campaign Unit Named
After ACORN’s Voter Fraud Factory

By Matthew Vadum

One of the co-conspirators in a White House-approved plot to use federal resources to produce partisan propaganda to advance President Obama’s policy agenda has been chosen to lead an Obama 2012 get-out-the-vote (GOTV) effort.
The Obama operative chosen to head the GOTV effort, Buffy Wicks, was deputy director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. In that capacity she participated in a now-infamous 2009 conference call in which Obama officials urged artists to create art that would help advance Obamacare and the rest of the president’s policy objectives.
Wicks will head a GOTV effort named after the branch of ACORN that employed Obama in 1992. Perhaps to honor Obama’s radical roots, the “campaign-within-a-campaign” will be named “Project Vote,” according to Politico’s Mike Allen.
Obama’s storied performance as head of Project Vote in Illinois during the 1992 campaign was widely credited with getting the radical left-wing Democrat Carol Moseley Braun elected to the U.S. Senate. It also helped Obama cement his reputation as a master community organizer.
The original Project Vote is part of the ACORN network. It continues to operate out of ACORN’s Washington, D.C. headquarters, and works with the new ACORN front groups created after ACORN, the shell corporation that ran the network, filed for bankruptcy last November.
ACORN officials openly acknowledge that the new front groups will come together under a new name in order to help reelect President Obama next year, as I write in my new book, Subversion Inc.: How Obama’s ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers.
There is no wall of separation between the two organizations. On registration and mobilization campaigns, ACORN and Project Vote work together to the point where it is difficult, if not impossible, to tell the difference. They share staff, office space, and money.
ACORN senior official Amy Adele Busefink, who earlier this year pleaded no-contest in a major ACORN-approved voter fraud conspiracy in Nevada, works at Project Vote as a field director even now according to the group’s website.
The mission of the new “Project Vote” that is part of the Obama campaign apparatus will be the same as the old Project Vote: the manufacture of voters.
“The big goal here is to expand the electorate,” an Obama campaign official told Politico. “That’s how we won in 2008, and we think that’s the path to victory again in 2012.”
It was two years ago that Wicks, acting on behalf of the White House, gave birth to the NEA propaganda scandal.
Readers of the “Big” websites will recall that Patrick Courrielche reported at the time that the NEA and the White House encouraged “a handpicked, pro-Obama arts group to address politically controversial issues under contentious national debate.”
Wicks acknowledged during the call that she was “actually in the White House and working towards furthering this agenda, this very aggressive agenda.” She said, “We’re going to come at you with some specific asks here.”
Yosi Sergant, then-communications director at the taxpayer-funded National Endowment for the Arts, also was on the call encouraging artists to do the administration’s bidding. Sergant was forced out of his cushy post after his involvement in the scandal was revealed.
On the call Michael Skolnick, political director for hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, acknowledged the White House and the NEA “had the idea that I would help bring together the artist community.” The purpose was “to support some of the president’s initiatives,” he said.
Three days after the teleconference an alliance of arts organizations, led by Americans for the Arts, which participated in the call, issued a press release that urged the creation of “a health care reform bill that will create a public health insurance option.”
A few days later another group from the call, Rock the Vote, unveiled its own pro-Obama initiative. “We can’t stand by and listen to lies and deceit coming from those who are against reforming a broken system … Enough is Enough. We need designs that tell the country YES WE CARE! Young people demand health care.”

Darby Made Them Do It?

A new article of mine from Front Page Magazine:

Darby Made Them Do It?

By Matthew Vadum

As I write in my new book Subversion Inc., Brandon Darby has been a target ever since it was publicly revealed that he saved the lives of innocent Americans by thwarting the planned fire-bombing of the 2008 Republican Convention by two anarchists.

Left-wing activists have harassed Darby in his hometown of Austin, Texas, threatening cafes and other businesses he frequents for committing the sin of serving him. Some activists have issued death threats against him. As David Horowitz, Andrew Breitbart, and Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore can attest, this is often standard operating procedure when a person turns against the Left.
For his apostasy Darby, formerly a far-left community organizer who made a name for himself in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans, is vilified across the Internet. A new documentary film called “Better This World” portrays Darby as a charismatic master manipulator who somehow forces two idealistic young progressives to manufacture Molotov cocktails. (Predictably, the movie was funded by radical philanthropist George Soros. It airs on PBS next month.)
Within the radical community, being accused of acting as an agent provocateur is probably the worst charge that can be leveled at a person.
In February, The New York Times reported that Darby, an FBI informant, had “encouraged” the violent conspiracy. This is not a minor mistake. The implication the newspaper made was that the two terrorists weren’t really to blame for what they did because Darby manipulated them into doing it.
The newspaper published this report even though one of the perpetrators, David Guy McKay, admitted to the court that he lied about Darby’s role in the plot. “I embellished – I guess actually lied – that Brandon Darby came up with the idea to make Molotov cocktails,” McKay told a federal court in Minnesota in 2009.
At McKay’s sentencing hearing, U.S. District Court Chief Judge Michael Davis made a specific finding that the defendant obstructed justice at his trial by falsely accusing Darby of inducing him to manufacture the incendiary devices. The court slapped extra time onto McKay’s prison term for the lie.
For its slander, Darby filed suit against The New York Times earlier this year. The case is in the discovery phase.
Currently, the money-losing newspaper is trying to use the case to conduct a fishing expedition that could undermine law and order and the national security of the United States. Timeslawyers are trying to force the FBI to divulge the names of those targeted by the bureau’s investigators.
Now, Mother Jones magazine is attacking Darby. It’s not hard to figure out where the publication stands politically. Its namesake refers to a radical labor activist known as “the grandmother of all agitators.” A few years ago, it ran a sympathetic portrait of John Walker Lindh (aka the American Taliban).
Apparently Mother Jones has better lawyers than The New York Times. The magazine’s new article by reporter Josh Harkinson studiously avoids direct language to the effect that Darby encouraged the terrorist plot.

ACORN, Eh? Canadian Alinskyites Extort Money Mart, Western Union

(I'll be on Fox Business channel at 10:00 Eastern tonight discussing this blog post which was originally posted at Big Government.)

ACORN wants a cut of the huge international remittance business, valued worldwide at US$444 billion. So the organized crime syndicate is trying to shake down the financial services companies that handle those international money transfers.

In Canada, the local arm of ACORN is trying to shake down Money Mart and Western Union. ACORN, which used to employ President Obama, is hitting these two companies because it wants them to pay it protection money. The corporate shakedown is just one of the dubious methods ACORN uses to victimize businesses.

ACORN Canada's new president Kay Bisnath complains the fees banks and other companies charge for money transfers are "exorbitant." Ostensibly to help poor people, ACORN is demanding that Western Union charge no more than 5 percent for overseas remittances.

Canada's biggest daily newspaper, the Toronto Star, which is left-wing even by Canadian standards, is helping ACORN's Canadian affiliate by providing political propaganda disguised as news. (Canada's taxpayer-funded TV network, CBC, is also doing its bit to promote ACORN.) The Red Star, as some Canadian conservatives half-jokingly call it, is home to America-hating socialist writers such as Thomas Walkom and Linda McQuaig.

The pairing actually makes a lot sense. Both the Star and ACORN are on the far left and both have an impressive record of union-busting.

In the latest in a series of pro-ACORN puff pieces, the Star's immigration reporter, Nicholas Keung, wrote a feature article that used Rassel Mohammad, a Bangladeshi immigrant to Canada, as a prop.

When every three months he visits the Western Union counter at the local Money Mart Mohammad "pays a hefty price to help out his two widowed aunts and six school-age cousins in Bangladesh," Keung writes. Mohammad has to pay a supposedly outrageous $11 fee to ensure $100 makes its way safely to his relatives in his native country.

But is 11 percent really too much to pay to transfer funds to Bangladesh? There are plenty of reasons why a company might feel it necessary to charge an $11 fee for a money transfer to that troubled developing country.

With close to 159 million people packed into an area smaller than Iowa, 40 percent of Bangladesh's population lives below the poverty line. Residents are at high risk of contracting food or waterborne diseases such as hepatitis A and E, and typhoid fever. They are also at high risk for dengue fever, malaria, and leptospirosis.

A third of the country floods every year during monsoon season. Bangladesh is plagued by political instability, poor infrastructure, corruption, and inadequate power supplies.

Operating a business under such adverse conditions can't be easy or cheap.

Obama's Backdoor Amnesty

I have an article in Front Page Magazine today about President Obama's new immigration policy.

No matter what he calls it, it is an amnesty.

Here is the top of the piece:

The Obama administration’s new immigration amnesty is a purely political calculation intended to shore up the president’s sagging support among Latino voters.
President Obama has a habit of not enforcing laws he doesn’t like.
He doesn’t like the Defense of Marriage Act so he won’t defend it in the court. He doesn’t like energy exploration so he has ignored court order after court order that would allow deep-water oil drilling. He doesn’t like the free speech protections in the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. FEC so he’s planning an executive order to undermine it.
Now we can add immigration laws to the list.
But Obama cannot come out and state baldly that he is ignoring the law of the land, a move that diminishes respect for the rule of law and shows prospective illegal immigrants that America doesn’t care if they respect the nation’s borders. He has to try to convince the American public that his refusal to enforce the law is somehow in the best interests of the nation. [...]

Sentencing ACORN

I had a piece in Front Page Magazine about the sentencing of ACORN.

Here's the top of it:
After more than 40 years of waging war against America’s democratic institutions, the lawless ACORN gang has finally been brought to justice.
Sort of.
ACORN, the organization that brought Americans the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (the “Motor Voter” law), which makes election fraud a breeze, was sentenced for felony voter fraud in Las Vegas last week.
The nonprofit group famous for turning graveyards across the nation into Democratic strongholds, had previously pleaded guilty to unlawful compensation for registration of voters, a crime in Nevada.
Significantly, this is the first time ACORN itself, as opposed to its individual workers, has been convicted of a crime.
The court fined ACORN $5,000, the maximum allowed under state law. ACORN will probably end up paying nothing for its crimes. When the group filed bankruptcy last November, it declared assets of less than $4,000 against liabilities exceeding $4 million.
Prosecutors said the higher-ups in the group knew two senior ACORN executives were involved in a criminal conspiracy in which voter registration canvassers were illegally offered cash bonuses upon reaching the magic number of 21 registrations in a day.
In what appears to be an inside joke, ACORN officials in the gambling capital of America called the incentive program “Blackjack.” [...]

ACORN Voter Fraud Sentencing: Vadum on Fox Business tonight at about 10:40 Eastern time

I'll be on "Follow the Money" on Fox Business at around 10:40 p.m. Eastern tonight.

We'll be discussing the sentence the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) received last week in Las Vegas today for its role in a massive voter fraud conspiracy.

Judge Donald Mosley said if an individual, as opposed to a corporation, had been before him, he would have handed down a 10-year prison sentence. “And I wouldn’t have thought twice about it,” he said.

Mosley criticized ACORN, which used to employ President Obama, for making a “mockery” of America’s electoral process. “This isn’t a banana republic,” he said.

Romney Hecklers in Iowa Part of Radical Street Thug Group

Those obnoxious hecklers who tried to shout down Mitt Romney at the Iowa State Fair last week weren't just random Iowans trying to participate in the democratic process, as I write at Front Page Magazine.

They were members of a Marxist, ACORN-like group called Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI). Iowa CCI is an affiliate of a street thug outfit called National People's Action (NPA).

NPA may not be corrupt like ACORN but they're still bad people. NPA is participating in a nationwide economic terrorism campaign with the new ACORN front groups and SEIU aimed at destabilizing the nation's financial system.

You might remember the joint actions conducted by NPA and SEIU. The two organizations have been using angry mobs to invade banks and terrorize bank executives, such as Bank of America's Greg Baer, in their homes.

Voting Early and Often in NC: Four Charged with Crime the Left Says Doesn't Exist

We keep hearing from the usual suspects on the Left that voter fraud is virtually non-existent, a figment of the collective imagination of eeevil racist vote-suppressing Republicans.

And then more evidence of voter fraud keeps surfacing.

In Wake County, North Carolina, Shelia Ramona Hodges, Kierra Fontae Leach, Brandon Earl McLean, and Lela Devonetta Murray have been charged with voting twice, a felony.

District Attorney Colon Willoughby said he's not finished yet. "One of the bedrocks of our democracy is that we have fair and open elections, and I think this goes to the fabric of fairness and the public's perception of the credibility of open elections."

It is unclear if the four individuals have any connection to the heroic all-American pioneers in the vote manufacturing sector, ACORN. After ACORN, the shell corporation that ran the ACORN network, filed for bankruptcy in November, its state chapters have been reorganizing under assumed names. In North Carolina, ACORN's new front group is called Action NC.

In recent decades ACORN has led the way in eliminating barriers to hope and change such as the limiting "one man, one vote" principle and Nazi/Fascist/racist/xenophobe/homophobe police state attacks on the people such as the sickeningly medieval requirement that voters actually prove who they are before voting.

Moving along, and on a more serious note, J. Christian Adams has a great article in Front Page Magazine about how the Left dominates the narrative on election law.
