Matthew Vadum talks about his book Subversion Inc. on "Dateline: Washington"

I talked about my book Subversion Inc: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers (WND Books) on "Dateline: Washington" with Greg Corombos.

Here is the interview:

America needs to know that ACORN is restructuring in time to help re-elect President Obama in 2012. Obama used to work for ACORN and represented the group in court as its lawyer. These radical leftists who use the brutal, in-your-face, Machiavellian pressure tactics of Saul Alinsky want to destroy America as we know it and will use any means to do it.

Free speech? 'Kick the sh-- out of every last' worker: Book suggests crackdown on ACORN 'stormtrooper' tactics needed

WND has a new article out focusing on my book, Subversion Inc: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers.

It begins:

When AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, an ally of ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, told members of the United Mine workers in Illinois to "kick the [expletive] out of every last" worker violating picket lines, the question was raised about just exactly how far "political" speech can go, according to a new book.

Perhaps, not that far, suggests the stunning new publication, "Subversion Inc.," by award-winning investigative journalist Matthew Vadum.

Vadum, senior editor at Capital Research Center, a think tank that studies left-wing advocacy groups and their funders, has assembled the information from nearly three years of research and hundreds of interviews.

The book suggests ACORN's "anti-democratic, un-American activities are not legitimate political advocacy protected by the First Amendment. They cry out for prosecution under federal racketeering laws."

Significantly, the book reports, the push for a racketeering probe got a boost last month when ACORN was convicted in a massive voter fraud conspiracy in Nevada.

It cites the ACORN history of such activities:

"Former Chicago ACORN leader Madeline Talbott is a master of the bank shakedown. She bragged about 'dragging banks kicking and screaming' into questionable loans. Talbott thought highly of Barack Obama's organizing work in the Windy City and invited him to lecture her staffers. She also led a mob attack on the Chicago City Council during a 'living wage' debate. ACORN demonstrators 'pushed over the metal detector and table used to screen visitors, backed police against the doors to the council chamber, and blocked late-arriving aldermen and city staff from entering the session.'"

"Then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich had a taste of ACORN's stormtrooper tactics in 1995, when about 500 ACORN activists took over the Washington Hilton, forcing Gingrich to cancel a speech to 2,500 county commissioners. Demonstrators chanting 'Nuke Newt!' grabbed the microphone and commandeered the head table, then cheered when the speech was cancelled.

"'ACORN is part of the enforcement wing and the intimidation wing of the left,' Gingrich said in an interview."

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann endorses Matthew Vadum's book Subversion Inc.

Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann has endorsed my book Subversion Inc.: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers (WND Books).

Bachmann is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives who represents the 6th district of Minnesota. She's also an outspoken Tea Party leader and antagonist of the Obama administration.

Here's the endorsement:
Through his careful research, Matthew Vadum shined a light that exposed ACORN's corruption. For months I fought to cut off the flow of tax dollars to ACORN. In Subversion Inc. Vadum warns that despite the defunding of ACORN, the group has only feigned death.

ACORN Slayer James O'Keefe's Citizen Journalism Group Gets Tax-Exempt Status from IRS

The New York Times reports that James O'Keefe III has secured tax-exempt status for his nonprofit citizen journalism group Project Veritas.

With Hannah Giles, O'Keefe ran the undercover video sting that exposed the corruption of ACORN, President Obama's former employer and legal client. More recently he ran a video sting that showed NPR's willingness to accept donations from Islamofascists.

From the NYT report:
"It will help us expand as an organization and institution," Mr. O'Keefe said in an interview on Thursday.
He said the money saved with the status would help Project Veritas train and equip "an army" of citizen journalists to carry out its mission: "to investigate and expose corruption, dishonesty, self-dealing, waste, fraud and other misconduct in both public and private institutions in order to achieve a more ethical and transparent society."
I interviewed O'Keefe for my new book Subversion Inc.: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers. He offered his unique insights.

Giles and James O'Keefe III masterminded the undercover video sting operation that led to ACORN's downfall. Here is the endorsement:
Thanks to Matthew Vadum's extensive research, there is no way liberals will be able to whitewash the evils of ACORN. History will not be kind to America's most notorious pressure group.

David Horowitz endorses Matthew Vadum's book Subversion Inc.

David Horowitz has endorsed my book Subversion Inc.: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers (WND Books).

Horowitz is president of the David Horowitz Freedom Center. A former New Left Marxist in the 1960s, Horowitz later renounced his radical beliefs and became a patriotic conservative American. Horowitz is also the New York Times bestselling author of The Shadow Party: How George Soros, Hillary Clinton, and Sixties Radicals Seized Control of the Democratic Party.

Here is Horowitz's endorsement:
Matthew Vadum has created a well-researched, irresistibly written book that every American should read. The criminal enterprise called 'ACORN' is the largest, most elusive, and most dangerous radical organization in America. If you are wondering about the operations and influence of a vast left-wing conspiracy, this is it, with tentacles that reach right into the heart of the Obama White House.

Here is Professor Tierney's endorsement:
In his expose of the nefarious history of ACORN, Matthew Vadum has definitively revealed how socialist and ideological  partisanship was manipulated, twisted and ultimately destroyed by the evil of unscrupulous 'community organizers,' whose driven ambitions knew no bounds of restraint and whose compatriots involved some of the most powerful names in American politics, up to and including the president himself.

Soros Lieutenant Neier to Retire

Aryeh Neier, who has led George Soros’s network of philanthropies for 18 years, said he will retire as president of the Open Society Foundations in April next year when he turns 75.

Neier was instrumental in turning Soros’s charitable organizations into formidable instruments for anti-Americanism and nihilistic destruction worldwide. “It will undoubtedly be a new era,” the Chronicle of Philanthropy quotes Soros saying. “We have had a very productive relationship: two different characters, two different types of people, each respecting the other and having a creative tension between us. This will be disrupted by his departure.”

A successor has not yet been anointed.

Richard Viguerie endorses Matthew Vadum's Subversion Inc.

Richard Viguerie has endorsed my book Subversion Inc.: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers (WND Books).

Here is Viguerie's endorsement:
Matthew Vadum’s book, Subversion Inc., rips the cover off the cover-up and tells how much of America’s Ruling Class (Barack Obama, George Soros, the Catholic church, Hollywood, the media, unions, etc., etc.) collaborated to bring socialism to America. ACORN's other White House 'insider' now heads DNC's 'Organizing for America'

From WND:
President Obama isn't the only longtime ACORN operative who has spent time in the White House, according to a newly published book.
Obama White House political director Patrick Gaspard, who held the same title as Karl Rove in President Bush's White House, also helped to execute ACORN's 40-year plan to transform America into a socialist country, according to a stunning new book, "Subversion Inc.," by award-winning investigative journalist Matthew Vadum.
Vadum, senior editor at Capital Research Center, a think tank that studies left-wing advocacy groups and their funders, has assembled the information from nearly three years of research and hundreds of interviews.
Gaspard is now executive director of the Democratic National Committee. As day-to-day DNC boss, Gaspard is in charge of "Organizing for America," a Saul Alinsky-inspired pressure group that helps Democrats "get in the face" of voters, to borrow President Obama's memorable phrase from the 2008 campaign trail.
"Anyone who cares about America's free and open democratic processes ought to be very concerned that a dirty trickster like Gaspard is running the DNC's official activism arm," Vadum told WND. [...]

On food stamps? Buy a house! Vadum confronts ACORN spokesman over its role in the mortgage crisis

Here's a video from Neil Cavuto's show on Fox News in which I confront an ACORN spokesman.

As I write in Subversion Inc., ACORN wasn't solely responsible for the mortgage crisis but it played a significant role in it, pushing the awful Community Reinvestment Act which is essentially a financial affirmative action law. ACORN also intimidated banks into accepting food stamps as income on loan applications.

Citizen Soros: Funding Anti-American Film (Part 3 of 3)

(Continued from Part 2)

Recap: Radical funder George Soros’s $1 million gift to Media Matters, a left-wing character assassination machine, underwrites its campaign to stigmatize conservative ideas. For weeks Eric Boehlert of Media Matters attacked Glenn Beck because a disturbed viewer plotted to shoot up the offices of the left-wing Tides Foundation. The shooter, Byron Williams, failed, but in December when a fan of Media Matters, the late Florida school board shooter Clay Duke, wreaked havoc, Boehlert and Media Matters remained silent.

Soros is also bankrolling a documentary that celebrates left-wing terrorists who plotted to napalm Republicans at the 2008 GOP convention in Minnesota. Even worse, you too are bankrolling the film through your taxes.
A trailer for the left-wing film Better This World suggests that it depicts David Guy McKay and Bradley Neil Crowder as idealistic activists who, according to the official blurb, “set out to prove the strength of their political convictions to themselves and their mentor.” In fact McKay and Crowder are convicted domestic terrorists who manufactured instruments of death calculated to inflict maximum pain and bodily harm on people whose political views they disagreed with.
You can be sure that if it was right-wing terrorists who were plotting to attack the Democratic National Convention, whoever foiled the conspiracy would be immortalized in film, literature and song as a savior of democracy.
“If you flip the equation around and it had been a group of conservatives threatening to use force to prevent those on the Left from meeting, everyone would expect the government to infiltrate them and they would also expect the FBI to stop them and charge them with crimes,” said Brandon Darby, who helped the FBI thwart the planned attack. (Darby’s essay on political violence appeared on Big Government. Read it here.)
The movie, which is expected to be released this year, attacks Darby, a true American hero who undermined the conspiracy by alerting the FBI. Filmmakers Katie Galloway and Kelly Duane de la Vega twist the facts to argue that Darby, a former revolutionary activist, manipulated McKay and Crowder into becoming would-be mass murderers.
It’s an easily disproved lie. During sentencing, U.S. District Judge Michael Davis went out of his way to make a specific legal finding that McKay obstructed justice by falsely accusing Darby of inducing him to manufacture the incendiary devices.

A note on Michael J. Gaynor's careless blog post

Fellow ACORN hunter Michael J. Gaynor, who like me was praised by Michelle Malkin for pursuing the ACORN story when it was being ignored, is certainly entitled to his opinion about my book Subversion Inc., but he is not entitled to his own set of facts.

In a blog post Gaynor asserts that I failed to include in my book
a story that the American voters need to know--the story of how Anita MonCrief, an ex-ACORN insider, became a confidential source for The New York Times in the summer of 2008, The Times killed an ACORN/Obama expose before Election Day 2008, Times reporter left MonCrief a voicemail message that "higher up" had ordered her to "stand down" and then explained that Times policy was not to publish a potential "game changer" close to election day, and MonCrief then testified in an ACORN case in Pennsylvania before Election Day 2008, after voting for Obama, became disillusioned and provided to Congress copies of her email exchange with Strom and the transcript of her testimony in the Pennsylvania case.
In fact I describe the above events at pages 45 and 46 of Subversion Inc.

USS Cesar Chavez? Why not the USS Saul Alinsky?

Incredibly, the U.S. Navy has decided to name a cargo ship after the guy who came up with the Obama campaign slogan, "Yes, we can!" That man is the late labor agitator and community organizer Cesar Chavez. Chavez's union, the United Farm Workers, used the saying he coined as its official motto. (In Spanish, "¡Sí se puede!")

The decision to name a Navy ship after this radical is remarkable not only because President Obama's teleprompter has the phrase "Yes, we can!" burnt into it from the phrase's overuse, but because the far-left leader was a disciple of communist sympathizer Saul Alinsky. Chavez, who died in 1993, worked for the Community Service Organization from 1952 to 1962. CSO was a pressure group created by Alinsky's Industrial Areas Foundation. Chavez has been lionized by the left because he hated capitalism and shared Alinsky's contempt for the American system. The man even sounded like Alinsky, insisting he loved America while working to undermine its institutions. Chavez said
Until the chance for political participation is there, we who are poor will continue to attack the soft part of the American system - its economic structure. We will build power through boycotts, strikes, new union - whatever techniques we can develop. These attacks on the status quo will come, not because we hate, but because we know America can construct a humane society for all its citizens - and that if it does not, there will be chaos.
"There will be chaos?" Prediction or threat? You decide.

Chavez is also connected to ACORN founder Wade Rathke, a fact I reported in my new book, Subversion Inc.: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers.

When Rathke was employed as an organizer at ACORN's parent organization, the National Welfare Rights Organization (NWRO), he was trained by a man named Bill Pastreich who had studied Alinsky’s in-your-face organizing techniques. Pastreich had also been employed by Chavez's United Farm Workers.

Is it just a matter of time before the Obama administration commissions the USS Saul Alinsky? No doubt it will be a destroyer.

Citizen Soros: Suppressing Conservative Ideas (Part 2 of 3) by Matthew Vadum

(Continued from Part 1)

Recap: Radical philanthropist George Soros gave $1 million to Media Matters for America, a well-funded slander shop that roots out “conservative misinformation.” It’s all part of his campaign to suppress conservative ideas that stand in the way of pushing America even farther to the left.

The left has been hyperventilating about Beck ever since he moved from CNN to Fox News in early 2009 and quickly became the Obama administration’s most vociferous high-profile critic. In particular, liberals could not abide Beck righteously fulminating against the shadowy Tides Foundation, a pass-through entity that allows wealthy individuals to give to radical causes anonymously.

Eric Boehlert, a so-called senior fellow at Media Matters, seized an opportunity when a deranged would-be shooter named Byron Williams jumped into the headlines last year. After a shootout with the California Highway Patrol, Williams said he had been on his way to shoot up the San Francisco offices of Tides in hopes of sparking a revolution. Williams was never actually much of a threat to Tides. When police pulled him over on a Sunday when the Tides offices were closed, the inept insurrectionist was drunk.
Media Matters argued that Beck had blood on his hands because Williams claimed Beck’s program was one of his favorite TV shows. Boehlert blogged that Beck “has routinely smeared the low-profile entity [i.e. Tides] for being staffed by ‘thugs’ and ‘bullies’ and involved in ‘the nasty of the nastiest,’ like indoctrinating schoolchildren and creating a ‘mass organization to seize power.’” Williams “wasn’t able to open fire inside the offices of the Tides Foundation, an organization ‘nobody knew’ about until Glenn Beck started targeting it.”
Aside from the rhetorical flourishes, Beck had provided a more or less accurate picture of the Tides Foundation, its sister groups, and many of its grant recipients.
As Trevor Loudon wrote in the October 2010 Foundation Watch, “The Tides Foundation and Tides Center are the radical left’s best kept secret. Together they provide tens of millions of dollars annually to some of the most extreme, destructive charities in America. Their money has gone to an assortment of questionable groups including ACORN, Media Matters for America, and the Center for Constitutional Rights.” (The Center was profiled in the September 2006 Organization Trends.)

Citizen Soros: Manipulating the Media (Part 1 of 3), by Matthew Vadum

He has conquered the world of finance and remains firmly on top of it. He writes bestselling books. He dominates leftist philanthropy. He co-founded the Democracy Alliance, an ultra-secretive billionaires’ club that wants to transform America into a European-style socialist state – or worse. He owns the Democratic Party. Now George Soros, who also fancies himself a philosopher, is positioning himself as a media magnate in order to continue his assault on America’s values and institutions.

Like the protagonist in the classic Orson Welles movie Citizen Kane, Soros can never have enough power. But unlike Charles Foster Kane, the haughty, imperious fictional media mogul, Soros views himself as much more than a mere leader. With a straight face he told reporters, “It is a sort of disease when you consider yourself some kind of god, the creator of everything, but I feel comfortable about it now since I began to live it out.” (The Independent – UK, June 3, 1993)

Although markets have helped make him a billionaire several times over, Soros has declared war on capitalism. He blames markets and something he calls “market fundamentalism”— and not the suffocating regulations and high taxes his funding of left-wing groups promotes – for the current economic slowdown. “The entire edifice of global financial markets has been erected on the false premise that markets can be left to their own devices, we must find a new paradigm and rebuild from the ground up.”

“The system we have now has actually broken down, only we haven’t quite recognized it and so you need to create a new one and this is the time to do it,” Soros told the Financial Times in 2009. In an interview with Der Spiegel the previous year Soros said European-style socialism “is exactly what we need now. I am against market fundamentalism. I think this propaganda that government involvement is always bad has been very successful – but also very harmful to our society.”

Only in the twisted messianic fantasies of this octogenarian billionaire whose demeanor is that of a James Bond villain could such phantom armies of marauding free market fundamentalists wreak havoc on America. Perhaps these were the same laissez-faire legionnaires who brought us Sarbanes-Oxley, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, government bailouts of private industry, farm subsidies, ethanol mandates, smart growth, and the disastrous Community Reinvestment Act in recent decades.

Surprise! Obama's ACORN Thugs Are Alive And Preparing for 2012

A blog post I put in the American Spectator this morning:

ACORN is far, far worse than everything you've heard. It celebrates and promotes the worst pathologies in society in an effort to kill the American experiment in self-governance. And the rumors of ACORN's death have been greatly exaggerated. The radical group declared bankruptcy at the end of 2010, but its leaders acknowledge that they are building a new network of activist groups to continue ACORN's work undermining America's free institutions.

As predicted in my new book Subversion Inc.: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers, ACORN is restructuring in time to help re-elect President Obama in 2012. Obama used to work for ACORN and represented the group in court as its lawyer. ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis has created a group called the Black Institute whose agenda is essentially identical to ACORN's. ACORN founder Wade Rathke is spreading the gospel of Marxist social justice around the world through his offshoot group ACORN International (also known as Community Organizations International).

State chapters have incorporated themselves under new names. New York became New York Communities for Change. California became Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment. Texas became Texas Organizing Project. ACORN's vote manufacturing division, Project Vote, still operates under the same name and small-c communist Frances Fox Piven still sits on its board. ACORN's housing bubble generator, ACORN Housing, changed its name to Affordable Housing Centers of America. It's the same people in the same offices and it just goes on and on.
ACORN insiders have admitted that the "new" groups will re-federate under a new name soon.

Why Aren’t Community Organizers in Prison Where They Belong?: ‘Subversion Inc.’ Book Preview (Part 4 of 4)

ACORN demonstrators “pushed over the metal detector and table used to screen visitors, backed police against the doors to the council chamber, and blocked late-arriving aldermen and city staff from entering the session.” Six people, including a defiant Talbott, were led away in handcuffs.
Then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich had a taste of ACORN’s stormtrooper tactics in 1995, when about 500 ACORN activists took over the Washington Hilton, forcing Gingrich to cancel a speech to 2,500 county commissioners. Demonstrators chanting “Nuke Newt!” grabbed the microphone and commandeered the head table, then cheered when the speech was cancelled.
“ACORN is part of the enforcement wing and the intimidation wing of the left,” Gingrich said in an interview.
Members of ACORN assaulted New York state Sen. James Alesi, a Republican, and his chief of staff, during a raucous 2009 protest. Alesi said an angry mob nearly knocked him to the floor of the chamber and spat in the face of his chief of staff. ACORN was protesting after two Democratic state senators switched parties giving Republicans control of the New York Senate. ACORN’s political party, the Working Families Party, had invested considerable resources in state senate elections in the Empire State. WFP took credit for ending “30 years of right-wing Republican rule” in 2008.

Obama's secret plan to help Democrats by flushing 9/11: You won't believe how president sought to change meaning of catastrophic day

A new report from WND highlights more of the explosive information in my new book Subversion Inc.

Read the article here.

Here is the beginning of the piece:
Believing Sept. 11 to have been "hijacked by Republicans," President Obama had a secret plan to "flush 9/11 down the memory hole" in order to benefit Democrats, the author of a brand-new book is claiming.
According to "Subversion Inc." by investigative journalist Matthew Vadum, Obama sought to make the environment the prime concern on 9/11 instead of the worst terrorist attacks in U.S. history.
The president allegedly used his green jobs czar Van Jones and the leftist group ACORN to help orchestrate the transformation.
"The leftists at ACORN view September 11 as a 'Republican' day because it focuses the public on supposedly 'Republican' issues like patriotism, national security, and terrorism," writes Vadum [...]
"They complain that 9/11 was long ago hijacked by Republicans and their enablers and unfairly used to bludgeon helpless Democrats every election. MSNBC host Keith Olbermann summed up this ugly perspective, calling 9/11 'a brand name. A Republican campaign slogan. Propaganda of the lowest form.'" [...]

NewsReal blog has another preview article on my new book Subversion Inc.

Infiltrating the Obama Administration: A Book Preview for “Subversion Inc.: How Obama’s ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers” (Part 3 in a Series)

Big Government has the final installment in a series of articles previewing my new book Subversion Inc.

Read the article here.

It begins:
It should come as no surprise that on the campaign trail, President Obama refused to be interviewed about Saul Alinsky, the community organizing guru who wrote Rules for Radicals, a how-to guide for destroying American capitalism and democracy.
Presumably Obama, who taught courses on Alinsky’s brutal, sometimes violent organizing techniques, declined to speak to reporters about the late guru. He must have realized that such an interview would throw an unwanted spotlight on Alinsky’s radicalism, and by extension, his own. Such counterproductive publicity would also have undermined the candidate’s efforts to reinvent himself as a moderate. Alinsky’s adherents now dominate the modern Democratic Party establishment. Apart from President Obama himself, they include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett, Federal Communications Commission diversity chief Mark Lloyd, Obama’s ex-green jobs czar Van Jones, former DNC trainer Heather Booth, Children’s Defense Fund founder Marian Wright Edelman, former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros, and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to name just a few. “Who the hell isn’t [an Alinskyite] in this administration?” asks conservative author David Horowitz.
And President Obama hasn’t been the only longtime ACORN operative working in the White House. There’s also the low-profile Patrick Gaspard who, until recently, was White House political affairs director, one of the titles Karl Rove held in President Bush’s White House.
In a move that ought to disturb anyone who cares about the integrity of the democratic process, earlier this year Gaspard took over the reins of the Democratic National Committee as its executive director—just in time to begin initial preparations for President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign.
Gaspard hails from the same world of radical left-wing community organizing that made Barack Obama who he is today. Gaspard is an expert in the harsh, street-smart organizing tactics taught by Alinsky. He’s the hatchet man Obama sent to New York over a year ago to strong-arm then-Gov. David Paterson into dropping his reelection campaign. As executive director running the DNC’s day-to-day operations, Gaspard will oversee Organizing for America, a project of the DNC supposedly modeled on Alinskyite organizing principles. [...]
